The essential advance of Cargo-Sail-Concept is to focus on the separation of the sail-carrying part of the vessel from the cargo-holding part for interaction with port infrastructure.
A similar concept was formerly investigated by the development of barge-carriers (transporting the cargo in simple barges that in turn were transported by the barge-carriers), which at that time could not compete with the upcoming development and simplicity of the container system. Nowadays we are facing other technologies, demands and concerns which make this concept interesting in many ways.
Different approaches on how and to what extend the separation of the sail- carrying system from the cargo-holding system can be achieved, will be investigated and evaluated.
